A special fund to help communities in North Wales fight crime has been set up using money seized from villains.
A total of £40,000 will be up for grabs - with £2,500 apiece for two groups in Conwy and £5,000 apiece for two groups that operate across North Wales.
Three very well deserving organisations are competing for votes including two very committed groups based here in Colwyn Bay.
The Kind Bay Project will provide a sanctuary for homeless people once a week on Sundays providing them with advice. As well as that the project may be able to help with accommodation and access to other essential services.
By providing food, clothes, tents and sleeping bags etc the project aims to reduce instances of anti-social behaviour and shop lifting whereby people feel the need to steal or beg in order to survive on the streets.
In the six months since the Kind Bay project has been operating they have had great success in bringing the community together whether in a volunteering role or as attendees. At times some of their attendees have turned to the KBI to help them resolve their situation.
Antioch at Capel Salem aims to 'build resilience in communities'. They are very aware that vulnerable people, especially young people, fall prey to exploitation when they have no support in their families and the wider communities.Their project will provide a 'safe place' where people feel they can express their fears and worries and will be heard.
Many of the young people Antioch have engaged with have gone on to have and hold onto responsible jobs and it had made a huge difference in their lives.
Llanfairfechan Foodbank, is run by the community for the community. The foodbank allows any person, for any age to attend, and receive food parcels, toiletries and often furniture, bedding etc.
It is run by a group of volunteers who set time aside to ensure Llanfairfechan’s community members are not going without.
