It has been announced that two popular players have recently been released by Colwyn Bay Football Club.

The experienced 32-year-old defender, who started his playing career with Manchester City, was previously captain at Glossop North End and has also had spells with Curzon Ashton, Mossley, Radcliffe Borough and Runcorn Linnets.

He has made 29 appearances for Colwyn Bay this season, but in four of the last five games that was only as a second half substitute due to strong competition for places.

Darren Thornton is the second player to be released by the club.

The 32-year-old defensive player joined the Bay from Glossop North End in December 2018 and leaves five short of making his 50th appearance for the club.

In that time he has scored two goals - both last season in a 4-1 win over Market Drayton and the 2-1 home defeat against Radcliffe.

The club thanked both players for their efforts and commitment.

In other news, Joe Chaplin has been recalled  by the Seagulls from his successful loan spell at Gresford Athletic.

Joe has made 20 appearances for the Bay this season and scored four goals, including late match winners at Bangor City and Llandudno.

He went out on loan after struggling to get regular game time after a hamstring injury and became a regular scorer at Gresford. where he was nominated for the Cymru North's Player of the Month for February.

He scored five goals in seven games for Gresford, helping them reach the semi-finals of the NEWFA Cup, and only once being only a losing side.

Seagulls boss Craig Hogg reported; "The loan has worked really well for all parties and we look forward to having Joe back in the Bay shirt again."
