The UK Labour government has rejected a proposed amendment that would have given Wales control over the Crown Estate, aligning it with Scotland.
The Crown Estate, which owns over £603m worth of land in Wales, including 65% of the seabed, is currently owned by the monarch and funds the Royal Family.
The Welsh Government and Plaid Cymru believe that devolving control would allow them to spend money raised from projects like windfarms exclusively in Wales. Currently these profits go directly to the UK Treasury.
In contrast, Scotland's Crown Estate generated record profits in 2024, which were reinvested into benefiting Scottish communities.
Plaid Cymru has criticized the UK government's stance, calling it a wholesale contradiction to Welsh Labour government policy.
