Pet owners are being warned to be on their guard and not to let their dogs drink out of lakes and pools. This follows the death of an animal after drinking water from a rock pool thought to be contaminated by toxic blue-green algae.
The naturally growing algae was said to have been spotted in rock pools around Penmaen Park near to Penmaenmawr.
Each year, National Resources Wales warns the public to be on their guard against the poisoness algae which settles on the surface of the water mainly in the spring and summer months.
A spokesperson from National Resources Wales said: " Yes sadly, a dog has collapsed and died due to suspected algae poisoning. If you’re in the area, please keep yourselves and pets away from the water."
