Wheelchair tennis initiative comes to the Bay in October

September 26, 2021 - 855 views

Wheelchair Tennis is a sport that provides less able bodied individuals and their family and friends with many opportunities to play and compete – all whilst having fun.

Early next month a special day to promote the sport and taking part comes to Colwyn Bay at the Tennis Centre in Eirias Park.

Wheelchair Tennis is easily adaptable; you can play with your family, friends and also non-disabled people. The sport is also great at improving your physical, mental and social wellbeing, and individual development with great career opportunities from playing to coaching.

Whether you are a full time wheelchair user, ambulant, new to tennis or have not picked up a racket in a while, why not give it a try! To find out more about disability tennis, click here

Wheelchair tennis is fortunate to have exceptional role models promoting the sport including Alfie Hewett, Gordon Reid, Andy Lapthorne, Jordanne Whiley and Lucy Shuker; all who started out having a go and went on to develop their skills.

Could you be a future Wheelchair Tennis champion? The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA)  are set to host a number of indoor one day-events across Great Britain this year.

The events will be delivered by passionate, friendly and experienced LTA Performance Wheelchair Tennis coaches, where you will have the opportunity to learn and develop new qualities, skills and attributes for tennis.

Each of the days will run for approximately three hours following fun and engaging content for players of all standard, experience, age and ability.

The session in Colwyn Bay will be held on Saturday 9th October at the Colwyn Bay Tennis Centre in Eirias Park.

The Wheelchair Tennis Initiative aims to inspire, attract and engage people with physical impairments into Wheelchair Tennis who may want to just give it a go or have aspirations to be the next Wheelchair Tennis Champion.

Following the one-day event, you will be provided with suitable and appropriate signposting opportunities to tennis venues local to you which will help you develop as an individual and as a player, with opportunities to meet new people and friends.

To sign up to the Colwyn Bay day, please complete the registration form. All timings are provided on the registration form.

Note, you do not need to own a sports wheelchair to participate, or a tennis racket: all the equipment will be provided.
