Three brave officers are being commended for their actions in trying to save the life of a woman who sadly died following a fire in her Abergele home, yesterday afternoon.

The officers, who were on patrol in the area, arrived quickly at the property in Gorwel, Maes Canol, Abergele, after a call had been received at 3.56pm on Tuesday (14th April), where they found a number of concerned neighbours trying to rescue the lady from the address.

The woman was rescued from the burning property by the officers, and was transferred to hospital, but sadly she later died.

Sgt Kevin Smith said: “Our sympathies go out to her family and friends. The officers reacted immediately and we would like to commend them and the local residents for their actions in trying to save the life of this elderly woman.”

“We would also like to thank all the neighbours who assisted the officers and also our partner agencies who treated the officers at the scene for smoke inhalation and minor burn injuries.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation in conjunction with North Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
