Bayside Podcast: Welsh Mod Memories

October 26, 2019 - 3730 views

This special one-off podcast takes listeners back to the days when Mod culture was big in Colwyn Bay and across the North Wales coast.

We remember the roots of the movement back in the sixties and what it became in the 1980s from local people who lived and experienced it first hand.

As you will hear, many memories and stories were inspired by a fringe photography exhibition that showed at 22 Station Road as part of the Northern Eye Photography Festival. The exhibition titled 'Welsh Mod' took a look at this subculture through the lens of celebrated photographer Haydn Denman and was supported by Imagine Colwyn Bay.

Bayside's Simon Wynne joined Helen Jackson to talk to some of the many people who came by to share their memories.

Imagine Colwyn Bay is a Heritage Fund, Great Place Scheme which between now and March 2021 aims to harness interest in the town’s unique past to inspire and connect people through an innovative programme of cultural activities, exhibitions and events.

In addition, there will be support for the development of a Creative Industry hub to offer learning, delivery opportunities and attract further investment into the area.

The project is supported with thanks to National Lottery players through the Heritage Fund, Great Place scheme, The Bay of Colwyn Town Council, Conwy County Borough Council and Colwyn BID.
