Darren Millar who has a North Wales seat in the Senedd and represents Clwyd West, is set to become the next leader of the Welsh Conservatives.
The BBC reports that he has the support of 12 party colleagues including outgoing leader Andrew RT Davies. Other potential rivals have ruled themselves out.
With no other candidates, Mr. Millar will become the leader if nominations close on Thursday afternoon at 5pm without any further contenders.
