Local voluntary sports council, Sport Conwy’s new initiative with a leading North Wales charity is aiming to assist in making sports equipment and clothing more accessible to residents of Conwy who may otherwise face barriers in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

St David’s Hospice will be working with Sport Conwy on a campaign to encourage residents to donate their unwanted sports clothing and equipment. There will be a two-week window of opportunity to donate to several Conwy County Borough Council sports and leisure facilities.

Leisure Development Manager for Sport Conwy and Conwy County Borough Council, Caroline Jones, said,
“Sport Conwy are delighted to be working with St David’s Hospice on a new venture that will provide people with opportunities to recycle sports clothing and equipment.  The scheme will provide people with access to affordable sporting items during the cost-of-living crisis and will support the fantastic work undertaken by the hospice across the county of Conwy.”

On Thursday 2 November local sports clubs and organisations will be invited to a special ‘sporting showcase evening’ hosted by St David’s Hospice. The event will give the opportunity for clubs to view and purchase before the general public. On Saturday 4 November there will be a sales event which will be open to the general public. Both events will take place at the Hospice’s new donation centre shop in Llandudno Junction.

Head of Retail for St David’s, Cali Morley said, “We are really pleased to be working with Sport Conwy on this project and hope that it will benefit the communities in Conwy county by giving them the opportunity to purchase sporting equipment and clothing at a heavily reduced price. We will also be working with professionals who will test all equipment that is donated”.

There will be opportunities to donate to the scheme over the last two weeks of September across several Conwy County Borough Council operated buildings.
