After being diagnosed with cancer many times over the past 15 years, Debbie Evans from Llandudno was told it had returned, but this time it was incurable.

Undeterred, at the start of 2021, she decided to challenge herself to complete a different fundraising activity for every month of the year.

Debbie said the following as she headed into the challenges: “As you may or may not know, me and cancer go way back.

“I have fought cancer through three diagnoses, the most recent being incurable, and 15 operations.

“Battling cancer and receiving chemotherapy can be a very lonely process. You feel lost in a world you once knew.

“I have sat many a time on a chemotherapy ward receiving my treatment and have always chosen to have a friend or family member with me to make the process that much easier.

“I could not have fought this battle without my friends and family by my side the whole way.

“This is why I, along with my family and friends, will be completing a different challenge each month for 2021, such as a step challenge, a zip-wire challenge and a sea dip, to name but a few.

“Cancer can take a lot from a person, but it hasn’t taken my drive or my determination. Please help me make a difference to people affected by cancer by offering them a little light entertainment during a very difficult and uncomfortable time in their lives. I sit where they sit, and I for one know, it would make all the difference.”

Debbie was cared for in the later stages of her life by the Hospice at Home service provided by St David’s Hospice, and sadly Debbie passed away on October 5th 2021 with her loving family around her, Debbie’s husband Michael Evans, her son also called Michael Evans, and her daughter Becki Kelly.

Friend Sue Wood described Debbie as a lady with great vision and determination, she said: “She gathered a group of friends to get together to raise money for the Alaw Ward and St David’s Hospice.

“Who could refuse this wonderful lady and fabulous friend? This journey, throughout 2021, with Debbie was incredible, and she will live in our hearts forever.”

Debbie groups of friends continued Debbie wish and completed the full 12 months of challenges raising £7100 for St David’s Hospice.
