Nine-year-old, Aron Richards from Old Colwyn has set himself the challenge of completing 100 miles during the month of March, raising much needed funds for local palliative care charity St David’s Hospice.

Aron must walk, run or cycle 100 miles in his local area, aiming to complete a minimum of two miles a day to fulfil his goal.

He is taking on the challenge in memory of both his Grandads (Ian Hankey and Keith Richards) who sadly passed away from cancer.

Ian passed away in November 2017 followed by Keith in July 2020, with both spending time at St David’s Hospice.

Like most charities, St David’s Hospice has suffered as a result to the detrimental effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. When the pandemic hit back in March 2020, the charity sent out a letter to its supporters, appealing for their help to regenerate an estimated £1 million loss of income, as a direct impact to the virus.

Aron’s family received the letter, with Aron in disbelief over the potential financial threat to the Hospice, he decided to launch his 100 Mile Challenge, to raise as much funds as possible to secure the charity’s future.

Mark Richards, Aron’s Father spoke on his behalf. ‘’Any donations would be massively appreciated, no matter how large or small. St David’s Hospice do unbelievably good work, when people need it the most.

"Please spare what you can to help Aron raise as much money as he can for them, in memory of his Grandads.’’

Our running cost currently stands at five million a year, with every single penny raised through community fundraising events contributing towards continuing to provide end-of-life care, free of charge to the people of Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey.’’
