Bayside Podcast: Fairtrade Fortnight in Conwy

February 24, 2020 - 1927 views

In a special Bayside Radio podcast Jeff chats to Nia Higginbotham about the many aspects of Fairtrade Fortnight and some of the things supporting the fortnight across the area.

Nia is the Chair of the Fairtrade committee for the Llandudno and Conwy area. Fairtrade is set up to make sure that farm workers overseas get paid the right wages for their produce.

It ranges from coffee and tea to bananas and also Fairtrade footballs. Look for the Fairtrade logo on the item you buy to make sure you are doing your bit to stop employers getting rich by paying the employees very poor wages.

Previously in her work with TCC she helped steer Wrexham to be the first Fairtrade county in Wales and develop Wales as a Fairtrade nation.

She founded the first Community Organising charity in Wales, bringing together a range of faith and secular groups, which, through a programme of action and training, develop leaders able to translate their beliefs into community change.

Nia has also taught in University, college, distance learning and community settings and continues to be involved with a range of voluntary organisations.
