A concerned group of business people will be putting increased pressure on North Wales Police and Conwy County Borough Council to assist the community after another devastating break-in in the town centre.
In a series of incidents which appear to have become more regular in recent months, the Pier Trust shop on Penrhyn Road was broken into and money raised from fundraising over the past few months stolen.
The thieves also gained entry into Brigg's Wine Bar next door and stole camera equipment and an archive of photographs said to be valuable.
Mark Clemson from the Colwyn Bay Business Zone said that enough was enough after recording four serious incidents in the recent weeks and urged the business community to come together and co-ordinate efforts to make Town Centre meetings with statutory bodies a reality.
"I recently held a meeting with the Chief Constable of North Wales Police some months ago raising these exact issues.
"He stated that Colwyn Bay was not his top priority as Rhyl and Wrexham fall into that category. I have a further meeting with the Crime Commissioner later this month.
"I’ve canvassed for Town Centre meetings to have a collaborative approach to these issues - I’ve approached local police and offered initiatives and projects.
"I’m still awaiting NWP to respond to the idea of re- establishing Town Centre meetings - a request I sent to their business manager.
"I have 30 years Police experience in Merseyside. I know what I see and I know what can be achieved - as Secretary of the Colwyn Chamber of Trade and Director of the Colwyn Business Support Zone I will continue to work hard for the business community of Colwyn Bay."
Local residents and business people have taken to social media to praise the work being done to develop areas such as Penrhyn Road and bring more investment into the town. However there is a fear that businesses will just close up and move on if they don't feel like they are being supported.
Bayside Radio has also written to the Mayor of Colwyn, Cllr Neil Bastow requesting that the Town Council table a question to North Wales Police and Conwy Council about what actions and plans might be taken in response to recent events.
