Runners taking part in the Conwy Half Marathon completed a North Wales first in a bid to tackle plastic waste and litter on Sunday.
In response to rising pressure on all event organisers to ensure that activities are planned with green and environmental issues in mind, organisers Run Wales stipulated that all runners would be liable for disqualification for irresponsibly discarding water bottles and litter during the race.
It is not known whether any runners were penalised for not following the directive.
The actions of Run Wales follows the Cardiff Half Marathon which saw an environmentally friendly approach to the event. This saw recycled and biodegradable paper used in programmes and 100% recyclable plastic bottles.
Once again the race, described as one of the most scenic in the country attracted a good turnout for its start on Conwy quay with many locals and visitors running for charity.
