Injury worries on Colwyn Bay's mind after 0-0 Llangefni draw

The Seagulls extended their unbeaten run to five games, but for the second time in four days had to settle for a point at home after being held to a 0-0 draw by Llangefni Town.

The Anglesey side, fighting to stay clear of the relegation zone, clearly came with a game plan to fight a rearguard action and although the Bay dominated possession they couldn't break down a solid and well drilled defensive wall.

But the biggest blow for the Bay was losing top scorer Mitch Bryant with injury after only 15 minutes.

The fear is he has ankle ligament damage and could be out of action for some time. Having already lost fellow front man Damien Ketley for the rest of the season with a torn knee cartilage, this is a real setback for manager Craig Hogg.

Bryant's early exit left the Bay struggling to breakthrough Llangefni's stubborn defensive set up, with often eight men behind the ball.

Tom McCready did go close with a free kick inches over the bar, while Toby Jones shot narrowly wide, and Sion  Edwards, Mike Williams and Kian Owen all had efforts saved by Llangefni keeper Tyler French.

The second half continued in similar fashion with the Bay striving to find a way through a packed defence, and when they did they couldn't find a finish as Joe Chaplin had a shot held by the keeper and both Daz Thornton and Julian Williams were off target.

Manager Craig Hogg said he felt his players looked physically and mentally fatigued after playing three games in six days, especially after the effort put into the first of those at Flint last weekend, but said: " I think the lads deserve a lot of credit for coming through a challenging run of three games in six days undefeated.

"All the games brought with them different challenges for us to overcome and the lads have again put in a huge effort against a team who came with the aim of not losing.

"I can understand that given the position that Llangefni are in and credit to them for making it very difficult to break them down.

"The lads can have a good rest now over Christmas ahead of the Llandudno game in eight days time.

"We should be in the top five at Christmas and are still in a big cup competition as we go into the New Year, and that is hugely pleasing.

"I'm pleased with how the first half of the season has gone. There is a lot of football left still to play and we hope to build on the good work I feel we have achieved so far in our first season back in Wales."

Sion Edwards was voted the SoccerMillion Man of the Match for the second time in four days and was presented with his champagne by Supporters Group member Harry Pritchard.
