Support and feedback sought for new Crest Happy-tat project

February 20, 2020 - 2728 views

Crest Co-operative in Colwyn Bay and Llandudno Junction are embarking on a study to ascertain interest for a potentially innovative community project.

They are seeking to establish a workshop which delivers on the two overarching themes of social inclusion and the creative reuse of unwanted household furniture and goods.

The aim of the project is to provide volunteering opportunities in a supportive, creative workshop environment for members of the community who are experiencing, or at risk of, social isolation; or who wish to learn, share or practice practical skills through the activity of repairing and up-cycling household goods for reuse.

The project aims to provide up to 6 volunteering opportunities per day for people from the following groups:

- Women wishing to learn or share practical and creative skills.
- Fathers wishing to learn with, or impart practical skills to their sons or daughters.
- Adults with a learning disability or mental health issue looking to improve independent living skills.
- Adults seeking to improve their general wellbeing by developing their social interaction and practical skills.

Each volunteer would benefit from:

- Supervised access to a safe, fully equipped workshop
- Support from a skilled tutor
- Learning how to use a wide range of hand tools and bench mounted machinery
- Developing transferable practical skills such as: basic joinery, furniture repair techniques, furniture upholstery/varnishing/painting and creative up cycling of general household items.
- Access to certificated generic and skills specific training courses
- Access to employability support.
- 20% discount on Happi-tat stock purchases
- Travel expenses
