Toby's magic touch lands Seagulls a 2-0 home victory

Two first half goals from Toby Jones gave the Seagulls a 2-0 home victory over Corwen which briefly lifted them into second place in the JD Cymru North table.

Both goals came in an 20 minute spell before half-time in which Toby also had a shot cleared off the line to deny him a first half hat-trick.

That made it five league wins in a row for the Bay, although it was not one of their best performances against a Corwen side that had skipper Dale Davies red carded early in the second half and had three other players booked for bad fouls.

Corwen were first to threaten with Andy Coughlin forced to make a good diving save to turn a strong shot from distance  round the post for a corner.

Mitch Bryant then had a good chance to give Bay the lead as he broke free inside the area, but saw his shot blocked away for a corner by keeper Keighan Jones, who also held onto a strong angled shot from Sion Edwards.

The Bay, however, took the lead on 22 minutes when Toby Jones broke into the area and fired past the keeper, and 18 minutes later Mitch Bryant's pass set Toby up for his second which he finished with a cool finish into the bottom corner of the net.

He was unlucky not to get his hat-trick when a well-struck shot from a corner was blocked on the line by a Corwen defender.

The Bay looked favourites to go on and score more goals, but they never really got going in the second half - especially after the visitors were reduced to 10 men on 53 minutes for a crude challenge on Will Bell and the game became scrappy and tetchy.

Andy Coughlin had to make a good save to prevent Corwen pulling a goal back after Bay played themselves into trouble at the back and had another shot from Sam Henry that went narrowly wide as the ten men dictated play for a spell.

The Bay came strong again towards the end as Cai Owen had a great effort deflected over the bar for a corner.

Cai Owen and Callum Parry were both narrowly off target before Sion Edwards broke into a good shooting position in added time only to also shoot wide.

Two goal Toby Jones was voted the SoccerMillion Man of the Match by supporters and was presented with his award by Terry Hughes of Match Sponsors Colwyn Plumbing and Heating.
