Heartless thieves steal valuables from hospice centre in Mochdre

Heartless thieves have once again struck a local charity at a very vulnerable time.

For the second time in a year the St. David's Hospice Donation Centre in Mochdre has been broken into with many valuable items worth many thousands of pounds stolen. It is thought that the break-in occurred at some point on Thursday morning.

The charity which funds end-of-life care on Abbey Road in Llandudno is already in a vulnerable position having lost valuable funding from the closure of its charity shops and cancellation fundraising events.

Only last week St. David's Chief Executive Trystan Pritchard spoke about the struggle the hospice faced in the wake of Coronavirus and the funding gap that it potentially faced.

Mr. Pritchard said "We know that in the coming weeks that this unique and wonderful local charity will face a battle for its own survival. We depend on public donations for 84% of the £4 million we need every year to run our services.

Commenting yesterday on the burglary he said:“It’s extremely hurtful that someone would target the Hospice at this incredibly difficult time. We are fighting for our survival as we have lost most of our income because of the current coronavirus crisis.

'This will make it even harder for us to find enough funds to care for local people at the end of their life.”

The Donation Centre was targeted last year with a loss of stock and needless damage caused in the break-in.
