A Rhos-on-Sea man acheived another personal milestone and raised money for a local charity after a gruelling challenge last weekend.

On Saturday, 63 year old Segir Messamah ran the gruelling Endurance Life Anglesey Half Marathon over strenuous coastal terrain and along cliffs, whilst being battered by the winter wind and rain.

The 14.7 mile run started at the Breakwater Country Park, Holyhead and followed a route around the coastal path to North and South Stacks.

Seghir said: “The run was challenging in regards to the terrain and the atrocious weather.

“I’ve done half marathons before including Conwy Half and the Betws Trail Half but this was very challenging with the wind and the narrow paths.

“This run was in preparation for my first ever full marathon, the Snowdonia Trail Marathon next July.

“I chose to support St David’s Hospice because they help so many people and I hear nothing but good things about care they offer.

“I am thankful for my health and for this privilege which I am aware, is denied to many others, some of whom St David's Hospice does a great, commendable job at helping.”

Seghir finished the half marathon in 3hrs 18 and raised £760 for St David’s Hospice.

This is the second challenge Seghir has taken on for St David’s Hospice, three years ago he also completed a Mount Toubkal Winter Climb in Morocco raising over £600.

On receiving the sponsorship money on behalf of the Hospice, Conwy Area Fundraiser James Wilde said:

“Thank you so much to Seghir for braving the weather and all of his efforts in running this race. It is very much appreciated. I look forward to hearing how he gets on in July.

“The money raised will go a long way towards the care offered to patients and their families here at the Hospice.”
